The two most popular injectable treatments in Manila — but they do completely different things. Our medical editor explains what Filipino faces actually need and when.
Botox and fillers are the two most requested injectable treatments in Manila's aesthetic clinics, and they are frequently confused with each other. They are not interchangeable. They treat different concerns, work through different mechanisms, and are appropriate for different patients. This guide explains what each does, what Filipino faces typically need, and how Manila's best physicians approach the decision.
What Botox Does
Botox (botulinum toxin type A) relaxes specific facial muscles by blocking nerve signals. It treats dynamic wrinkles — lines caused by muscle movement: forehead lines, frown lines (glabella), crow's feet. It also treats jaw slimming (masseter reduction), brow lifting, and hyperhidrosis. Results last 3–6 months. Cost in Manila: ₱500–₱1,500 per unit, ₱15,000–₱45,000 for full-face treatment at reputable clinics.
What Fillers Do
Hyaluronic acid fillers (Juvederm, Restylane, Teosyal) add volume and define contours. They treat static wrinkles (lines present at rest), volume loss in cheeks and temples, lip augmentation, under-eye hollows, and jawline definition. Results last 12–18 months depending on area and product. Cost in Manila: ₱15,000–₱35,000 per 1ml syringe.
What Filipino Faces Typically Need
Filipino faces tend to have: strong bone structure (less volume loss than Caucasian faces), more prominent masseter muscles (jaw slimming Botox is highly effective), tendency toward hyperpigmentation (not treated by injectables), and excellent skin thickness that ages well. Most Filipino patients in their 30s benefit more from Botox than fillers. Fillers become more relevant in the 40s as volume loss begins.
The Combination Approach
Manila's most experienced physicians — at Belo, Luminisce, and The Aivee Institute — rarely recommend one without considering the other. The combination of Botox for muscle relaxation and strategic filler placement for volume and contour is called a 'liquid facelift' and delivers results that neither treatment achieves alone. A well-executed combination treatment at a reputable BGC clinic runs ₱35,000–₱65,000 and lasts 12–18 months.
